Exchange Indian driving license to German
Indian driving licenses are valid in Germany. You are allowed to use it for six months and later have to make a German license. Here comes the tricky part, you must hold a valid Indian license during your first registration in Germany.
Steps for conversion:
- Register at the nearest Fahrschule aka. driving school. Cost vary however it should be between EUR 80 to EUR 150
- Buy study material for theory exam which costs between EUR 50 - 70
- You are not required to take theory classes and 12 practical lessons (aka. Besondere Ausbildungsfahrten) since you have a valid Indian license. However it is advisable to at least few of the Besondere Ausbildungsfahrten, especially when it comes to familiarising yourself with the Autobahn
- Get your license translated to German language. This can be done at ADAC centers with cost of EUR 55 (check current fees at ADAC website)
- You’ll need to pass an eye test, and attend a first aid class and click latest biometric photos. The courses can be found at the Fahrschule.
- Give all the documents to driving school to register and book an appointment for you. Meanwhile prepare for theory test with an app named 360 online 2.0 . You can give test in English.
- About 2-3 weeks you will receive letter from Tüv. If you are not able to attend the theory test or fail, re-register again by paying the fees.
- Once you are confident enough, attend the exam and your German license will be in your hands.
